What is
this all about?
So how did this all start?
At the request of our Community
In 2017, the Boulder Junction Economic Development/Connect Communities Committee sent a survey to Boulder Junction stakeholders.
The vast majority of the respondents said the lack of Broadband was the greatest economic challenge facing Boulder Junction.
We listened and developed a solution.
What is "High Speed" Broadband?
Super Fast data transfer to and from the Internet
Fiber-optic internet is known for its reliability and speed. This type of broadband internet uses glass fibers to transfer light, then convert it to data, with the fastest speeds reaching up to 1 Gbps or more.
It is ideal for HD streaming TV & movies, uploading & downloading large files, health screening & monitoring, e-commerce, running security systems & cameras, using the Cloud, video conferencing, working remotely, Tele-Education, secure tunneling, banking transactions, online gaming, and heavy internet use with multiple devices.
What this means to Boulder Junction.
The Future of Boulder Junction
Boulder Junction has a unique opportunity!
High Speed Broadband in Boulder Junction will help to provide a more diversified, stable and sustainable economy year round. We will be able to...
Market our Town to young families, remote workers, entrepreneurs, and new eco-friendly businesses, and allow us to develop new support services and businesses for those new arrivals.
Stabilize and diversify the economy, so we can recruit new and more employees for existing businesses.
Keep visitors and seasonal residents here longer, and convert some to full-time residents, adding to the tax roll as they develop new properties and businesses.
Enhance and protect school enrollment as well as provide the tools needed to invest in our children’s education.
And that’s just the beginning…

What this means to you.
Options and Freedom
The ability to connect to High Speed Broadband will open many new opportunities and benefits to you.
You will be able to search for work and job opportunities outside of Boulder Junction and live here in the beautiful Northwoods through Tele-Commuting. Family members who visit will be able to stay longer and work remotely.
It will help you to stay in your home longer, having direct access to your physicians and doctors through Tele-Health. It will allow your children to do their homework and stay competitive with other schools and students through Tele-Education… and so much more!
All of this with FREE Installation, and an estimated increase in property taxes of $.60 or $.24 per $1,000 (or $60/$24 per $100K) in assessed property tax value per year, depending upon the specifics and timing of the bond.
Consolidating your telephone and moving to streaming TV might save you additional money each month.
How this is Going to be Implemented.
Laying Ground for the Future
Boulder Junction thrives on volunteerism and this project is no different. The Broadband Workgroup has evolved into a Town Committee led by Supervisor Jim Galloway. He is supported by six committee members who are striving to ensure the High Speed Broadband is implemented as efficiently and inexpensively as possible.
The project will be implemented through the following steps:
-
High Speed Broadband promotion and sign up.
-
Fiber optic infrastructure construction along the Town's roads.
-
Home and business owner subscribes to CenturyLink High Speed Broadband service.
-
Fiber optic pedestal placement.
-
Fiber optic drops to homes and businesses.
-
Fiber optic devices placed in homes and businesses.
-
Fiber optic service is turned on.
Construction is scheduled to start in late 2020 and service turned on to 745 Town homes and businesses during the Summer and Fall of 2021, with Phase 1 of the project wrapped up by the end of 2021.
